Newcastle Clobber PSG as Man City Beat RB Leipzig in the Last of UCL Group Stage Matchday 2 Games

Newcastle United are seemingly back to last season’s form as they yesterday clobbered Paris Saint Germain a good 4-1 as Manchester City revamped their energy and beat RB Leipzig 3-1. Here’s all the action plus results from the last of UCL Group Stage Matchday 2 games played yesterday.

Newcastle Clobber PSG a Handsome 4-1

Newcastle, also nicknamed ‘The Magpies’ for their striped white and black jerseys, are seemingly back to last season’s form as they went on to clobber PSG a handsome 4-1 at home. Miguel Almiron opened the scoring for Newcastle in the 17th minute, before Dan Burn put in a second (that was almost denied by VAR) in the 39th minute.

Side Note:

Apparently, VAR works much better in the UEFA Champions League as compared to the Premier League. There, it is “semi-automated” as they say and has a far better way of checking offsides; as it does a 3D render of the players and places a virtual wall (that is visible) straight from the mark player. This makes it super easy to see if the player who’s going on to score is offside or not. For EPL, it is another story, as we saw in the post below.

Before long, Sean Longstaff put in Newcastle’s third in the 50th minute, just before Lucas Hernandez scored PSG’s only goal 6 minutes later. As if these were not enough, Newcastle’s Fabian Schar then scored their 4th goal in 90 + 1’.

Damn Eddie.. That was Fantastic!

Newcastle’s coach Eddie Howe pulled off a fantastic win for Newcastle, and did it in a special place: at home in St. James’ Park. The win marked Newcastle’s biggest ever winning margin in a UCL match. To come back to the Champions League after 20 years (since the 2002/03 season) and beat a team like PSG, Eddie is a fweaking genius. Damn mate! The future is looking super bright for this team and God, are they on fire. Remember that they hammered Sheffield United a good 8-0 in EPL GW 6 and now look to conquer this UCL season’s group of death.

Man City Beat RB Leipzig

Despite not performing so solidly these last few weeks, Manchester City seemed to revamp their energy as they went on to beat RB Leipzig 3-1. Phil Foden opened the scoring for City in the 25th minute, after multiple foiled attempts. Leipzig’s Luis Openda then equalized in the 48th minute, before Julian Alvarez made it two for City in 84th minute. He then handed over the baton to Jeremy Doku, who made it 3 for Man City in 90 + 2’.

Pull Up Pep

City are the defending champions in the UCL and they really need to ensure that they are more solid than ever. The way teams are playing, if they waylay their solidity, then the title could go with a team like Newcastle or Atletico Madrid. It is, therefore, upon coach Pep Guardiola to ensure that all bases are covered and that the team remains as strong as ever.

Atletico Madrid beat Feyenoord

Yesterday also saw Atletico Madrid beat Feyenoord 3-2, thanks to a stunning brace by Alvaro Morata. Things started unraveling for Feyenoord in the 7th minute, when their player, Mario Hermoso scored an own goal.

Alvaro Morata then came in and scored his first in the 12th minute, which was followed by David Hancko goal for Feyenoord in the 34th minute. Unphased, Morata then came in to score his second in the 47th minute. He played phenomenally well and we can see a really stellar time ahead for Atletico, especially since he and Griezmann are seemingly on the same wavelength.

Antoine Griezmann, who’s developing a Kane and Son type of relationship with Morata, then came in to score Atletico’s third in 45 + 3’. Atletico have a really good chance at becoming real contenders in the UCL this season.

Barcelona Beat Porto

Barca, who now have nearly come out of the slump of the last few La Liga seasons, went on to beat Porto 1-0 in UCL Group Stage Matchday 2. The lone goal came from Ferran Torres, who slated it in on 45 + 1’. There isn’t much to say about Barca or Porto since the two have shown themselves to not be too much of a threat in the UCL.
