We Lost the Super Mega AKA and We Lost A Big Part of Our World With Him

South African rapper Kiernan 'AKA' Forbes is no more. It's taken nearly a week since his demise for me to be able to put this down. I purely hate to admit to myself that rapper AKA is no more. Painfully, just barely a year after Ricky Rick died and also in the follow-up to PNB Rock and Takeoff's deaths. Read about Riky's demise below.

Hip Hop is dying all over the world because we are killing our Hip Hop artists. What in the world does anyone stand to gain when you pluck out a star from the world?

The Super Mega is Gone

AKA, alias the Super Mega, was one of the most, if not the most, influential African Hip Hop artist of our time. The Super Mega represented everything grand and regal about African Hip Hop. He was fresh, and authentic and brought the sauce like we'd never seen before. He was a constant in the South African rap scene and his death is a gigantic blow to Hip Hop music in Africa and the world.

AKA was shot dead in Durban on 10th February in what the police say is an assassination. He was only 35 years old. He was with former manager and associate Tebello 'Tibz' Motsoane who was also shot and later died while in hospital. RIP to Tibz as well. The two were shot on Florida Road in Durban.

Hip Hop is Dying and We are Totally Heartbroken

I am yet to process my grief on this one and my heart is completely heartbroken, especially for his family, friends, and fans all over the world. We cannot live like this. We cannot live in a world where our young Hip Hop stars are dying by the day. Hip Hop is everything to us. It is our life. Stop Killing Our Hip Hop Artist!!! We've lost a huge part of our world due to this. I loved AKA's music a lot and he was someone I looked up to as a Hip Hop artist myself.

'Fela in Versace'

Rest in Peace Super Mega! Rest in Glory! Rest in Gucci! Rest in Moet! Rest in Sweet Soft Cotton Heaven! Rest in Eternal Hip Hop Greatness! Super Mega left behind a beautiful daughter Kairo Owethu Forbes and we dedicate his 'Fela in Versace" song to her. Let her know that her father was a King. An African King who represented everything fresh, authentic, and regal. Rest in Peace AKA! Rest in Versace Super Mega!

Listen to 'Fela in Versace' by AKA featuring Kiddominant below. This is my favorite song from his catalogue. Rest in Peace Bro :'
