#StoptheWar: Appreciating Ukraine’s President Zelenskyy

Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has shown phenomenal leadership in this war, going beyond any expectations of an inexperienced new president in such a volatile situation as the Russia-Ukraine war. The war has gone on long enough and let us all advocate for an end using the hashtag #StoptheWar.

Historically Emasculated Ukraine

President Zelensky is a former comedian who had no experience whatsoever in leadership. His election win was Ukraine’s way of showing its lethargy with leaders who were collaborating with Putin. Former leaders would easily be swayed by Putin and emasculated to the point that Putin had such a huge influence on the political landscape of Ukraine. The culmination of that was the annexation of Crimea.

An Unrelenting Leader

Zelenskyy, on the other hand, was a ‘fresh’, unrelenting president and an uncorrupted mind. He had new and fresh ideas of what Ukraine should be and the potential it had. He didn’t have any qualms about what his role as president would be and from the onset vowed to keep Russia and Putin at bay. He didn’t flinch and many of his threats called Putin’s bluff. On Putin realizing that Ukraine was no longer a nation where he exercises soft power, he resorted to war.

Russia may be Stronger but it isn’t Insurmountable

Russia is a huge country with extensive resources compared to Ukraine. Ukraine is a smaller and militarily less-resourced country. The fact that Zelensky is holding base and fighting Russia in a full-blown war is a testament to his valor and the valor of the soldiers and people of Ukraine. Ukraine will get out of this war stronger, and Russia and Putin will suffer immeasurably for invading Ukraine. After all, Russia isn’t insurmountable.

A Nobel Peace Prize President

President Zelensky, according to public sentiment, deserves a Nobel Peace Prize for his efforts to keep the country together and defend it during this war with Russia. For instance, when the war started he didn’t run and opted to stay in Kyiv and fight. He went to the frontline and gave strength to his soldiers and has constantly been fighting to end the war and ensure Ukraine defends itself to the best of its ability. We salute you President Zelenskyy and we salute Ukraine. 🇺🇦
