EPL Gameweek 19 is underway and despite coinciding with the holidays packed just as strong a hit with Manchester United, Chelsea, and Man City pulling off incredible comebacks. Here’s how it went down including EPL Matchday 19 results.
Hello and welcome to another installment of the Premier League on Mania Africa. Merry belated Christmas and Happy New Year!
Man United Pull Off the Comeback of the Year Against Aston Villa
It was yet another game for Man United where things seemed at best shaky. Coming from a loss against West Ham in gameweek 18, Man United needed a Christmas miracle, and a Christmas miracle they got. While Santa was on his way, Aston Villa’s John McGinn put Villa ahead in the 21st minute with Leander Dendoncker putting them two ahead in the 26th minute. At this point, it was okay to assume that Santa had fallen off his sleigh but things were yet to unfold.
Garnacho Brace
Come the second half, something had definitely shifted and Alejandro Garnacho scored his first for Man United in the 59th minute. It wasn’t long before Garnacho, seemingly Santa’s man on the ground, scored his second, an incredible strike in the 71st minute. United were now level 2-2 with Aston Villa and need just one more to make the game theirs.
Hojlund’s Scores His First Home Goal for Man United
Santa definitely came through, this time via Rasmus Hojlund who scored his first home goal for Manchester United. Hojlund had waited for over 1000 on-pitch minutes and finally got the magical goal. You could just how much it meant to him as he celebrated.
What this also meant was that Man United were now 3-2 ahead, the result at the end of the game, and boy oh boy! What a comeback!
Chelsea’s Make a Superb Comeback Against Crystal Palace
As if Santa had stuck around the UK and was now in London, Chelsea managed to pull off a superb comeback against Crystal Palace in their EPL GW 19 clash. Mykhailo Mudryk opened the scoring for Chelsea in the 13th minute before Michael Olise equalized for Crystal in 45 + 1′. The two teams were now square, and Chelsea needed an edge.
In came Noni Madueke who won a penalty in the 89th minute. After a little bit of hogwash, the penalty was granted and he was picked to be the one to take it. As if written in the stars, Madueke converted the penalty for Chelsea, bringing them back from a draw to an incredible, much-needed, and much-celebrated 2-1 win. The win now puts them back in the top 10 of the EPL Table and what a Merry Christmas it is for Mauricio Pochettino.
Manchester City’s Stunning Comeback Against Everton
Man City were facing Everton in EPL GW 19 and things started a little off-course for the defending champs. Everton’s Jack Harrison put Everton ahead in the 29th minute, with City seeming to lose their footing in the game.
Come the second half, however, Phil Foden quickly equalized for City with an incredible strike in the 53rd minute, before Julian Alvarez converted a penalty in the 64th minute.
The tables had turned and come the 86th minute, Bernardo Silva sent in an incredible volley that went in in a flame of glory. Man City had done it, they’d gotten themselves back to the top four in the EPL with a game in hand. What a week of merry comebacks.
Liverpool Beat Burnley as Nottingham Forest Hammer Newcastle United
EPL GW 19 also saw Liverpool beat Burnley 2-0. Darwin Nunez opened the scoring for ‘The Reds’ in the 6th minute, with Diogo Jota sealing their lead in the 90th minute.
On the other hand, Nottingham Forest hammered Newcastle 3-1, in what was an incredible display of form. Alexander Isak opened the scoring for Newcastle in the 23rd minute, unaware of the storm that was coming.
Chris Wood Hat Trick
Nottm were calm and cool for most of the first half but nearing the second half, Chris Wood was unleashed, as if Santa was now in a rush to get everyone their presents on time. Wood scored his first goal in 45 + 1′, before scoring another in the 53rd minute, and yet another in the 60th minute. Nottm had not only pulled off a fantastic comeback, but they’d also shown what level of the game they truly can play in and represent.
