It was a slumpy start for three of the most formidable teams in the Premier League as they were bound in draws in their first matches of the season. Tottenham, Chelsea, and Liverpool had to be content with a single point each after failing to overcome their rivals. Here’s how it went down.

Tottenham Draw Brentford

First to slump was Tottenham who, after saying goodbye to their beloved captain Harry Kane, had a point to prove but failed to win their game against Brentford.

Cristian Romero opened the scoring for Spurs in the 11th minute before quickly being subbed out by the new Tottenham coach. Despite being unhappy about the sub, Romero had to take his seat on the bench and let his teammates make things right. Emerson Royal then made it two for Spurs in stoppage time just before halftime.

Brentford, on their part, were right to rely on Bryan Mbeumo who converted a penalty kick in the 27th minute, before Yoane Wissa made it two with a fantastic 36th-minute strike. The game ended 2-2.

New Tottenham Coach Ange Postecoglou Has His Work Cut Out for Him

After the unfortunate parting of ways between Spurs and Antonio Conte, the team now brought on board Ange Postecoglou as the new manager.

Read more about Conte’s departure and his reasons for leaving below.

Ange has his work cut out for him, navigating a tricky time for the team just when longtime captain Harry Kane has left and there’s a risk of his departure destabilizing the group. Yesterday’s game was well played by both Spurs and Brentford and the way Tottenham played, in particular, was a good sign that Ange has hit the ground running. Spurs’ players had more initiative and fight in this game than in all their games last season.

Chelsea and Liverpool Locked in a Draw

With changes sweeping across the board, as both teams have new captains, Chelsea and Liverpool were unable to edge out each other, ending their game yesterday 1-1. Luis Diaz opened the scoring for Liverpool in the 18th minute before Axel Disasi stepped up and scored the equalizer for Chelsea in the 37th minute. Both teams have been slumpy all season last season and it’s time they pulled up their socks and took a good shot at the EPL Title.

New Captains for Both Chelsea and Liverpool

Both teams are undergoing new captainships with Chelsea announcing recently that Reece James will be their new captain and Liverpool announcing that Virgil van Dijk will be their new captain. The two will be assisted by vice-captains who are Ben Chilwell for Chelsea (reportedly) and Trent Alexander-Arnold for Liverpool.
