Raila Odinga Rejects Election Results as IEBC Vice-Chair Reveals Concerns

Azimio One Kenya presidential candidate Raila Amollo Odinga rejected the 2022 general election results moments after IEBC Vice-Chair Juliana Cherera, revealed the concerns of four of the seven commissioners who rejected the announced election results, citing opaqueness in the final stage of the tally.

Raila Calls for Calm and Peace

Raila Odinga took the moment to call for calm in the country and for peace. He ascertained that there are legal channels for seeking justice and that no one should take the law into their own hands.

Will Azimio Go to Court?

Most definitely. Azimio as per their captain Raila, alias ‘Baba’, is keen to seek legal recourse for what they feel was an unconstitutional announcement of the election results.

A Morally Corrupt Chebukati?

According to Azimio and Baba, IEBC Chairman Wafula Chebukati went against the will of the people and his fellow commissioners to announce the election results in favor of his preferred candidate. Raila says that Chebukati was politically influenced to announce William Ruto as the winner of the 2022 general elections in Kenya.

Decamped IEBC Commissioners Cite Mathematical Absurdity for their Dissociation with Election Results

The four IEBC commissioners that decamped Chebukati’s team yesterday revealed the reason for their dissociation with the election results. Led by IEBC Vice-Chair Juliana Cherera, the four commissioners cited mathematical absurdity as the reason why they distanced themselves from the election results.

Does the Math Add Up?

According to the four, the sum of the percentages of each of the four presidential candidates’ results adds up to 100.1% which is mathematically absurd. We did our own analysis and found this to be the case.

Is it Mathematically Sane for all Four Candidates’ Percentages to Add Up to 100.1?

No. It’s actually mathematically dumb. If William Ruto scored 50.49%, Raila Odinga 48.85%, George Wajackoyah 0.44%, and David Mwaure 0.23%, then the total summation of the percentages becomes 100.10% which is mathematically impossible given that there even isn’t an account for disputed, spoilt or rejected votes.

Where are the Rejected Votes?

In a normal election tally, the 100% would not be exceeded, and even to reach the 100% figure, there would need rejected or spoilt votes to be accounted for to help reach the 100% mark.

We Did the Math

Let’s take an example, if X people voted [total votes cast] and 0.45% of this number were rejected votes, then we would expect all the candidates’ percentages to add up to 99.55% which is 100% less 0.45%[the number of rejected votes]. Therefore, our number X or total votes cast should always add up to 100% and not anymore. Moreover, X less 0.45%*X should always be 99.5%*X. This also means that if one candidate had garnered 50.5% of the votes, their tally should be 50.5%*X which should also be similar to X less 49.5%. On the other hand, a candidate with 49.5% of the votes should have a tally of 49.5%*X which should also equal X less 50.5%.

Why X not Leading up to 100% is Troublesome

Finally, the summation of 50.5% for candidate A and 49.5% for candidate B should lead to X [which is 100%] less than 0.05% which is the amount of rejected votes. Unfortunately, IEBC’s tally of the 2022 general elections is presenting discrepancies when calculating X with each candidate’s percentage of votes garnered.

Does Azimio have a Strong Case to Present to the Court of Appeal?

Yes. Azimio One Kenya has a really strong case to present to the Supreme Court of Kenya. Just by our mathematical analysis above and the fact that an IEBC official has since been disappeared and killed, there seems that all is not what it appears to be with the 2022 general election.

Should Raila Odinga and Azimio Go to the Supreme Court?

A resounding yes! Kenyans deserve a fair, credible, and free election. The irregularities presented by the decamped commissioners and cited by Azimio One Kenya are not only a denial of the constitutional voice of Azimio and Raila Odinga; but also that of over 6 million Kenyans who voted for Raila and his party. As I’ve said, it’s not about Raila, it’s about the 6 million Kenyans who voted for him.
