Ousted Kenyan Deputy President, Rigathi Gachagua has emerged from Karen Hospital and made scathing accusations against President Ruto. Rigathi termed President Ruto as “vicious”, alleging that the president, through the intelligence services, tried to kill him, saying “I was supposed to be killed through poisoning”. In this article, we’ll delve into Gachagua’s scathing accusations against the president and his post-admission address.
The President is “Vicious” and “I was supposed to be killed through [food] poisoning” – Ousted DP Rigathi Gachagua
Gachagua, who addressed the media at Karen Hospital, had some scathing remarks about his now-former boss, President William Ruto.
Gachagua said’ I didn’t know President William Ruto can be that vicious, I am shocked by how vicious a man I helped to be president, a man that I believed in, a man that I was persecuted when supporting him, could be so vicious against me when I am literally fighting for my life in hospital. How cruel can a man be?”, adding that “I was supposed to be killed through poisoning”, a ploy he says the president tried to execute via the intelligence services.

The ousted DP revealed that on September 3rd, intelligence personnel tried to poison food that was meant for him and the Kikuyu Council of Elders in Nyeri. He also revealed that “on 30th of August, in Kisumu, undercover security agents entered my room in Kisumu and bugged it and one of them tried to poison my food, but we detected it and we were able to escape the scheme. I was supposed to be killed through poisoning”.
DP Gachagua Explains the Genesis of the Impeachment Motion Against Him
Speaking on the genesis of the impeachment motion against him, the ousted DP Gachagua said that “when the two attempts to assassinate me through food poisoning failed, it is when this impeachment motion was hatched”.

He also referred to his replacement as DP, Kithure Kindiki as a “control freak” and said that he would likely be “asked to sign an undated resignation letter” by the President, so that he would be fired if he opposes Ruto.

Gachagua lamented, “I had not seen that in President William Ruto. The man I am seeing is not the one that I thought that I knew”.

“I know that there was concerted effort that I should not go to Kwale for the [Madaraka Day 2024] celebration. Wilson Airport were told that I should not go through Wilson Airport”, he added.

Gachagua on Betrayal: I Trusted Ruto and He Betrayed Me
In his remarks, Ousted DP Rigathi Gachagua lamented, “I trusted President William Ruto, the people… of Mt. Kenya region trusted him. In fact, as we were preparing to go to office, nobody else trusted him. Musalia Mudavadi [And Moses Wentangula, Amason Kingi, and Alfred Mutua] demanded that they must sign an MoU with him, which they did. I am the only man who trusted him, verbally, because we are Christians.. we used go to church together. And as a Christian I believed a fellow Christian; that he would never betray me or my people”.
Gachagua said that he was being persecuted for the past one year calling his falling ill on Thursday “a culmination of continuous persecution and stress for a year”. Gachagua added that Ruto wanted to take him “the route President Daniel Arap Moi took Kenneth Matiba. He pushed Matiba upto getting a stroke and eventually dying”. He said that the president was crippling him while in hospital and treating him “like an animal”.
Gachagua Explains that He Feels “Exposed”
Asked on how he’ll combat his impeachment, Gachagua said that “my life is more important now”. Gachagua revealed that security had been withdrawn from all his residences and officers, and even at the Karen Hospital where he had been admitted. Gachagua said, “as we speak today, the deputy president of the Republic of Kenya, Rigathi Gachagua, has no single security officer surrounding him. He is alone”.

Going on, Gachagua reveals that “when my security was withdrawn here [Karen Hospital], officers from the National Intelligence Service have been hovering in every room in every compound here, to an extent I had to call my wife and my children to come and stay in my room”.
Gachagua said that he and his family are in danger and pleaded with the president, “Let us be. Do whatever you want but please, Mr. President I beg you. Don’t kill us. Don’t kill my children. You have caused me enough pain for the last one year. Please leave me alone. God will take care of me”. “Please allow me to have peace, if nothing else,” he added. His wife, Pastor Dorcas, left the press conference in tears.
“If anything happens to me or my family, President Ruto must be held to account” – Gachagua
The ousted DP accused Ruto of “total violation of the court orders” and withdrawing his security. He also said that the President had “crippled” his office and that “all vehicles belonging to personnel under me were impounded”. He also said that Ruto ordered that all personnel in his office be sent on compulsory leave.
Gachagua added that, “I want the people of Kenya to know that as I go home today, I have no security. And it is good that they know and if anything happens to me or my family, President Ruto must be held to account.” Gachagua admitted, “we’ve made many mistakes in life, and we keep on learning”. He also said that he holds “no grudge against anyone”.
On Ruto: Looking Back, [The Impeachment] Was Part of the Plan All Along
Ousted DP Rigathi Gachagua also stated that all along, it was Ruto’s plan to use him to get elected in the 2022 general elections, and then have him impeached. “Looking at it, I don’t think the president had any intention of ever working with me. I think he just needed me to help him win the election,” the ousted DP lamented. Gachagua referred to the president as vicious, saying that of all the people in Ruto’s government, he was the only one who could tell the president the truth.
Gachagua expressed optimism in the judiciary saying that he should have been let to speak during his impeachment. “The 11 counts is nothing but malice and fiction. It was a political game by the president to get rid of me”, he said, vowing to defend against his nomination in the courts.
“This Adani Thing is Not Good for the Country, There is Too Much Corruption” – Impeached Gachagua to Ruto
Gachagua said that he told the president “Don’t overtax the people, you are killing them. You are killing their businesses” and “This Adani thing is not right for the country. There is too much corruption, Mr. President”.
He also said that he told the president, “Don’t force the housing program on the people. If the people don’t want these houses, don’t force it on them”, referring to the ill-fated Ruto regime housing project that has gone nowhere. He also revealed that on issues such as awarding Adani Holdings government contracts, or “one single Asian” as he referred to them, Gachagua said that he told the president, “We are killing our [Kenyan local] business people”.
President Ruto knows his regime is unstable and he is unpopular and as I told you last time, he can’t allow a congregation of people because if the crowds swell, they can easily remove him from power. https://t.co/P4lUr1qJBe

Gachagua Speaking on His Health: “I am Out of Danger”
Speaking on his health, Gachagua revealed that “I am out of danger” and though he is “still weak”, he feels better and is recuperating. He said that on that fateful Thursday when he was taken ill — after being in parliament for his impeachment hearings at the Senate — he went for lunch but underwent some chest pains.
On calling his doctor, Dr. Gikonyo of Karen Hospital, the doctor instructed him “not to wait” and to rush to the hospital. That’s when Gachagua says that he instructed his people to ferry him to the hospital as quickly as possible. He acknowledged, in his statement, that his going to the hospital was timely, as he was instructed by the doctors that it was a risk to remain with the chest pains unattended. He had shown signs of being better when he earlier tweeted wishing Kenyans a Happy Mashujaa Day.
Happy Mashujaa Day dear Kenyans.
God Bless our Nation.
