Perhaps one of the most intriguing of storied comedy TV series, Apple TV+'s Loot is something special. Loot is a 2022 series about a woman, Molly Novak who's handed $87 billion as a divorce settlement after she discovers her husband of 20 years, John Novak, played by Adam Scott, has been cheating on her. Molly goes on a journey to discover herself, as she finds out who she is away from being a billionaire's wife.

Hailey... Really?

Molly Novak, played by Maya Rudolph, in her lavish birthday party celebration, discovers that her husband John is cheating on her with a younger lady by the name of Hailey, played by Dylan Gelula. Molly had been married to John for two decades, and she'd supported him back when he was coding in the basement before he became a tech titan and billionaire. She asks him, you're cheating on me with Hailey?.. Really?

'The One' Monster Mansion

One of the perks of being super rich that Molly enjoys is living in popular (or unpopular) L.A Monster Mansion, The One. She lives this grand life in what is essentially the biggest private house in America, with her own chef, a bowling room, a candy room, several pools, and more bedrooms than she and all her relatives can live in. Her life is grand as is the breathtaking mansion.

Nicholas

Nicholas, played by Joel Kim Booster, is Molly's right-hand man and somewhat her concierge. He is always there for her, taking care of everything she needs (with her money, of course,... there's a lot of that) and they both adore each other. Nicholas is gay and he is very much a Ying to Molly's Yang.

The Wells Foundation

Molly gets a call while she's going through the breakup about her charity, the Wells Foundation. The call is from the foundation's head, Sofia Salinas, played by Michaela Jaรฉ Rodriguez, who tells Molly to go in the next day to discuss the foundation. When Molly does, she is intrigued and decides to become more involved in the charity work the foundation undertakes.

Meeting Everyone

The Wells Foundation is made up of diverse characters, including Molly's distant cousin Howard, played by Ron Funches, her later-to-be admirer, Arthur, played by Nat Faxon, Rhonda, played by Meagen Fay, and Ainsley, played by Stephanie Styles. The team get to know each other and Molly takes them on a few trips where she brings them into her lavish out-of-this-world lifestyle.

Powerful but Sloppy

Throughout her time at the foundation, with Nicholas tagging along, she makes a powerful impact, even though she's very sloppy. For instance, in a summit where she and her fling, French billionaire Jean-Pierre, played by Olivier Martinez, are supposed to present a 'revolutionary' water purification machine, Molly is forced to drink brown dirty water when the machine fails to do its job.

She manages to spin the story, however, pledging to donate all of her $120 billion. Yes, by then her wealth had grown by more than a quarter. In fact, she attests that her wealth grows by tens of millions in a matter of minutes.

Finding New Friends and Rekindling Old Relationships

Molly's work at the Wells Foundation allows her to find new, and real friends (unlike her fake bougie friends), who she grows close to. She even gets a chance to rekindle her relationship with some of her old friends and family, including Renee, played by Kym Whitley, who she'd grown up with. As Molly discovers, quality people aren't always rich and it's sometimes the ordinary average people who are true friends. Real true friends and not just her ex-husband's friends who she inadvertently becomes friends with.

What Just Happened?

As Loot Season 1 comes to an end, Arthur confesses his love for her but she wakes up the next day besides her ex-husband John. Apparently, John had become attracted to her again after seeing how she'd flourished in the divorce, especially with her very impactful work with the foundation. The end of Season 1 leaves us wondering what more surprises are to come.

Our Rating

Loot Season 1 is extremely hilarious. It has such subtle and natural humor and we loved seeing the luxurious life of Molly and how she interfaces that with trying to live a 9-to-5 life. It also didn't hurt that the series features one of our favorite houses, The One Monster Mansion in L.A. Overall we loved the series a lot, and give it an 8.5/10 for its humor, and the important message for the ultra-rich to help out, but also connect with ordinary people in a more meaningful way. Be sure to watch it and enjoy!
