EPL Pre-Gameweek 4 Review: New Signings for United, Chelsea and Spurs

EPL GW 4 has already kicked off but the lion’s share is yet to be played. Even so, there have been numerous signings and transfers in the just-concluded transfer window with teams such as Man United, Chelsea, and Tottenham making moves that they hope will bolster their teams. Here’s all the latest.

Chelsea Sign Man City’s Cole Palmer

Perhaps the most exciting transfer news is that Mauricio Pochettino’s Chelsea have signed Manchester City’s midfielder Cole Palmer for 46 million Euros. Palmer, a formidable midfielder, may just be what Mauricio and Chelsea need to inject some excitement into their play. Palmer’s signing comes just days after Chelsea brought on goalkeeper Dodre Petrovic, in hopes to strengthen their goal keeping.

Cole Palmer joins new Chelsea signings including Moises Caicedo, Romeo Lavia, Christopher Nkunku, Axel Disasi, Nicolas Jackson, Lesley Ugochukwu, Robert Sanchez, Deivid Washington, Angelo, Axel Matos, and Manuel Moreira.

Manchester United Sign Sergio Reguilon on Loan

Man United, on their part, were keen to bring on board Sergio Reguilon, on loan from Spurs until June 2024, in an attempt to bolster their defense. In my view, as a Man Utd fan, Reguilon is also being brought on board to seal the huge sinkhole that was Harry Maguire in defense.

Reguilon joins new Man Utd signings including Rasmus Hojlund, Mason Mount, Andre Onana, goalkeeper Altay Bayindir, Jonny Evans, Sofyan Amrabat, and Daniel Gore.

Altay Bayindir, is a second goalkeeper to be signed by Man Utd this season, with Andre Onana as the other and seemingly, the one who’ll mostly be used between the two.

Manchester United Transfer Mason Greenwood to Getafe on Loan

Manchester United also finally gave an answer to the Mason Greenwood puzzle after they transferred the player to Getafe on loan. Greenwood had been accused of attempted rape and assault but the charges were later dropped after witnesses failed to cooperate.

Initially, the club kicked him out and waited for the conclusion of the investigations to decide his fate. As it turns out, it seems like Man United’s relationship with the player was badly damaged as a result, and possibly after being unable to sell him, they opted to loan him out to Getafe. The loaning is weird also because United will still pay more than 50% of his salary with Getafe only capping it with a little more.

Tottenham Sign Brennan Johnson

Another exciting signing is Brennan Johnson who was signed by Tottenham from Nottingham Forest. Johnson, who was arguably Nottm’s best player, will definitely have an impact in Tottenham. Coach Ange Postecoglou really thought out this one and I am sure, Spurs will be much better for it.

Brennan joins other Spurs signings this transfer window including James Maddison, Micky van de Ven, Pedro Porro, Dejan Kulusevski, Guglielmo Vicario, Alejo Veliz, Ashley Phillips, and Manor Solomon.
