It is a riveting gameweek 2 for the Premier League as Manchester City and Liverpool each bagged three points, as did Tottenham who hammered Manchester United in their first home game of the season. Here’s all the action.

Man City and Liverpool Bag 3 Points Each

Manchester City and Liverpool were looking as sharp as ever, going on to win their respective EPL GW 2 games.

Liverpool Beat Bournemouth

Liverpool beat Bournemouth 3-1, making a phenomenal comeback and securing the much-coveted 3 points. Bournemouth’s Antoine Semenyo had opened the scoring for Bournemouth in the 3rd minute, which went on to become their only goal for the game.

As for Liverpool, Luis Diaz scored their equalizer in the 28th minute, with Mo Salah making it two in the 36th minute. Liverpool were not done, however, with Diogo Jota making it three with his 62nd-minute strike.

Liverpool played very well, as did Bournemouth, but were much sloppy than they should be. This sloppiness culminated in a red card for Alexis Mac Allister, who was sent off. Manager Jurgen Klopp has started this season of the EPL on good footing and we hope to see more of the Liverpool that is inspirational as we get further into the season.

Man City Edge Past Newcastle

Manchester City were also playing at champion level as they went on to beat Newcastle United 1-0. Julian Alvarez scored City’s maiden goal in the 31st minute. Phil Foden played what was the game of his life, coming through in a big way as a matchmaker.

The win was not as resounding as we’d have hoped, however, with City only managing to edge past Newcastle. Man City are the EPL defending champions and this week also also won the Super Cup, so we expected more. Newcastle were part of the challengers last season and gave City a good resistance despite not managing to score.

Tottenham Hammer Man United

Perhaps the most exciting game of this gameweek, Tottenham Hotspur went head-to-head with Manchester United, with Spurs hammering United 2-0. Their new signing Pape Matar Sarr, scored their first goal in the 49th minute, with United’s Lisandro Martinez scoring an own goal in the 83rd minute; so much for being “The Butcher”. Man United have now shown weakness, and other teams will be keen to capitalize on it. As a Man Utd fan myself, there isn’t much to say but boooo!

New Coach New Form

Perhaps the most telling thing from the result was that under new coach Ange Postecoglou, Tottenham have an entirely new form. Yesterday’s game is their second to win this season and their first home victory. It was also the first game Spurs played under Ange at home and it was a resounding victory.

Vicario on the Post

Their triumph was also largely attributable to their new goalkeeper Vicario, who made impeccable saves. We’d thought that Harry Kane leaving Spurs would translate to a tragedy for the team but it seems that Ange is in total control and is a tactician we can anticipate brilliant performances from.

Other EPL GW 2 Games: Nottm, Brighton, and Brentford Pull Through

In other EPL GW 2 games, Nottingham Forest, Brighton, and Brentford pulled through, recording wins in their respective games.

Nottm Beat Sheffield United

Nottm beat Sheffield United 2-1, thanks to goals from Taiwo Awoniyi and Chris Wood, with Sheffield’s Gustavo Hamer scoring their single reprieve goal.

Brighton Nick Wolves

Brighton, on their part, beat Wolves a resounding 4-1, with goals from Kaoru Mitoma in the 15th minute, Pervis Estupinan in the 46th minute, and a brace from Solly March. Solly March scored his first in the 51st minute, quickly following it up with a second four minutes later.

Wolves only managed a single goal, thanks to Hwang Hee-chan, in the 61st minute. Their loss could also be attributed to sloppiness, some of which culminated in a red card for Matheus Nunes in stoppage time.

Brentford Beat Fulham

Brentford, '“The Bees”, were stinging hard as they went on to beat Fulham an impressive 3-0. Yoane Wissa opened the scoring for Brentford in the 44th minute, with Bryan Mbeumo scoring a brace. Mbeumo first converted a penalty in the 66th minute, topping it up with his second goal in stoppage time.

Upcoming EPL GW 2 Matches

The match between newly-promoted Luton Town and Burnley was postponed, and will not be played this week as had been set. Elsewhere, Aston Villa will face Everton today as will Chelsea who will face West Ham. The last game of EPL GW 2 will be played tomorrow and will see Arsenal go head-to-head with Crystal Palace.
