Chelsea Beats Rennes in Champions League Clash

Chelsea had a 3-0 win against French Club Rennes in the UEFA Champions League Group E clash on Wednesday. Chelsea showed form and prowess in penalty taking as Timo Werner, a recent transfer from Leipzig, scored two penalties to give the team two of their three goals. The third was scored by Tammy Abraham, who converted a cross from Jorginho. Chelsea were missing young star player Kai Havertz, who was in isolation after testing positive for COVID-19.

Timo Werner Proves Worth His Worth

Timo Werner was signed from Leipzig and has proven a good fit for Chelsea as he has played a role in goal-scoring for thirteen matches out of his fourteen appearances for the club. Werner took on the baton from Jorginho, who had recently slumped in his role as Chelsea’s penalty-taker.

Chelsea also recently signed star goalkeeper Edouard Mendy from Rennes, who was not kept busy by his former team during the game. Mendy has proven to be tremendously capable as a goalkeeper for Chelsea and was recently awarded man of the match in their recent clash with Manchester United at Old Trafford. Mendy made history for being the only goalkeeper after Peter Cech to have two clean sheets in his first two games for Chelsea. He successfully waded off Manchester United, leading the game to end in a 0-0 draw.

Frank Lampard Showing Good Potential as Chelsea's Manager

Frank Lampard has also shown potential by seeing the team get to good form after disruptions from Coronavirus. Chelsea have a young lineup of stars, including Mason Mount, Tammy Abraham, and Kai Havertz, who, together with Lampard, will transform the Blues into a younger and more invigorated team. The Blues are definitely top-four contenders in this season of the English Premier League.
