Arsenal Title Hopes Dimmed by a Home Draw with Southampton

Arsenal will face Manchester City this coming Wednesday and that game may be the title decider.

Arsenal Title Hopes Dimmed by a Home Draw with Southampton

Arsenal title hopes were yesterday dimmed after 'The Gunners' drew Southampton 3-3 in a hard-fought match. The game was crucial for Arsenal's title hopes as they had been only 4 points ahead of Manchester City, who have two games in hand. As things now stand, Arsenal are 5 points ahead, still giving Man City a very good chance to upend their lead and retain the English Premier League Title if they win both games.

Hard-Fought Arsenal Home Draw Against Southampton Still Not Good Enough

Yesterday's match against Southampton was hard-fought for Arsenal as 'The Gunners' came from behind to secure a 3-3 draw. Southampton opened the scoring with a Carlos Alcaraz goal in the 1st minute. Theo Walcott made it two thirteen minutes later and Duje Caleta-Car made it 3 for Southampton in the 66th minute.

3 Draws in the Last 3 Games for Arsenal

Gabriel Martinelli scored Arsenal's first goal in the 20th minute. Martin Odegaard followed with their second goal in the 88th minute with Bukayo Saka scoring the all-important third goal in the 90th minute, to salvage a draw. Saka's goal was his 13th Premier League goal this season.

Yesterday's draw against Southampton is Arsenal's third consecutive draw, at a time when they are in desperate need of putting distance between themselves and defending champions Manchester City in the EPL Table.

Basic Mistakes that Champions Just Don't Make

Arsenal made some really sloppy mistakes during the game, chief among them goalkeeper Ramsdale passing the ball into the box with Southampton's players present. Southampton's Alcaraz quickly nabbed the folly pass and scored Southampton's first goal. Such mistakes are basic mistakes that champions just don't make.

There was also sloppiness in defense with Gabriel letting the ball get in on the inside, a mistake that led to Southampton's second goal. You would expect that the leading team in the EPL currently would find playing against the last team in the league a walkover, but apparently not.

Arsenal 5 Points Ahead of Man City Who Have Two Games in Hand

Arsenal's draw with Southampton now put them 5 points ahead of a Manchester City that has 2 games in hand. City will, no doubt, capitalize on this and are very likely to win both games and upend Arsenal's lead in the EPL. Arsenal now have 75 points, with Manchester City having 70. Southampton are still at the bottom of the league, now with 25 points.

Arsenal vs Manchester City: What to Expect

Arsenal will face Manchester City this coming Wednesday and that game may be the title decider. Whichever team wins that game is far more likely to be the team that lifts the English Premier League title this season, and it looks very much like it will be Manchester City considering how Arsenal is playing. So, we predict Manchester City to beat Arsenal 3-2 and consequently secure enough points to retain the EPL Title. What do you think? Comment below.
