Antonio Conte Leaves Tottenham by Mutual Consent

Tottenham Hotspur's manager Antonio Conte has left the club and effectively left his position as Spurs manager by mutual consent, as per a club statement. The news comes just days after Conte had expressed disappointment with the club's players and follows a bout of illness he's been going through.

Why Did Conte Leave Spurs?

Conte has left Spurs for a number of reasons. Antonio Conte feels that the players are too selfish on the pitch and do not want to pass the ball and share opportunities to score. As you can imagine, for a coach of his level, this is beyond unacceptable and if he's failed to persuade the players to change, then he had no choice but to leave.

Conte may also have left due to health reasons as he'd been reportedly undergoing treatment following a bout of illness. The manager had been away from coaching Spurs for a few weeks this season, as he was getting treatment. It is likely that his health issues persisted and he feels he cannot manage to be on the pitch coaching as effectively as he'd wish.

Tottenham Club Chairman Daniel Levy: Tottenham is Fighting for a Champions League Slot

There are reports that Conte was sacked due to a rant but club chairman Daniel Levy says that Tottenham has 10 Premier League games remaining and a "fight" in their hands for a UCL slot. The club was recently kicked out of the Champions League. As such he says “We all need to pull together. Everyone has to step up to ensure the highest possible finish for our Club and amazing, loyal supporters”.

Therefore, it could just be that Conte left after the club's management felt he was not or could not do enough to ensure the club's continued success and highest possible finish in the Premier League.

Who Will be Tottenham's New Coach?

For the time being, Cristian Stellini will take over as the manager of Tottenham and will be a caretaker coach until the end of the current season. Stellini will be assisted by Ryan Mason who will play the role of Spurs' assistant coach, as the team scrambles to find a new permanent manager.
